An update on the missionary work: This week, my companion and I had a lesson with our investigator, Anh Dũng. A little bit of background information on him: we contacted him at a park. He came to our free English session some weeks later. Then, he started learning. This week we invited him to live the Word of Wisdom, and it is taking some faith on his part, because he did smoke. But, he is really trying, and even said that he is ready to help someone else stop smoking! One thing that's really cool about Anh Dũng is that he has this philosophy about life: If you want something, give it to someone else first. It's also really nice because sometimes when we see him for lessons or for our free English session, he will want a smoothie. So, he gets smoothies for us as well... haha! It's awesome to see how the Lord prepares others to receive the Gospel, and how it all started out with just talking to someone at a park!
Testimony Time:
I would like to share my testimony today about the power of humility and being humble. Humility is a Christ-like attribute. We can become more like our Savior Jesus Christ as we become more humble. When we are humble, we acknowledge our weaknesses and we rely on the Lord to lead and guide us. When we are humble, we are teachable. When we are humble, we accept others and their points of view more. When we are humble, the Lord truly turns our weaknesses into strengths. Over the course of my mission, I have been very humbled through many weaknesses and short-comings. I have learned that in order to truly achieve the goal to become like our Father in Heaven, we must be humble and teachable. If we are humble and seek the Lord's counsel, we will be guided in where we need to improve to become more Christ-like.
On the other hand, pride is the opposite of humility. Pride creates feelings of anger, envy and frustration. Pride makes it hard for us to forgive others. When we are prideful about our own ways, it is hard for us to be teachable.
I testify that as we are humble and as we seek the Lord's guidance to be better, our lives will be happier. Just like we read in the scripture in Ether 12:27, the Lord's grace is sufficient for all that humble themselves before him. I testify that as we are humble and teachable, we can truly develop Christ-like attributes, and when we become more like Christ, we have more peace and joy in our lives. If you think about it, the opportunity to be humble and to truly become like our Savior Jesus Christ, is a divine gift! Now, I am not perfect with this. There have been many times when my own pride has gotten in the way, and I was not humble. But, I do know that when we are humble, we turn to the Lord and we are happier. I want to invite all of you to truly remember to be humble and to seek the Lord's counsel. Truly think about where in your own life you could be more humble and teachable. Being humble will truly bless your life, and the Lord's grace is sufficient! I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Love,
Elder Justin Ly (Anh Cả Dũng)
